What is the social responsibility award?
The SVBA Social Responsibility Award is aimed at businesses based in South Oxfordshire or Vale of White Horse that are run ethically, sustainably, use CSR to solve existing business problems or pursue a social mission.
What is social responsibility?
For the award, we’re looking for social enterprises and businesses that focus on improving society. This may include anything from implementing environmentally friendly business practices to supporting charitable causes and ethical employee schemes. Examples of socially responsible businesses include Timpson, Beard Construction and many of the UK’s B-corps.
You can apply for the award here, entries close on 18January 2018.
Who is sponsoring the award?
Bluestream Recruitment is an independent recruitment consultancy, specialising in Aerospace Engineering, IT/Technology, Sales & Marketing and Office Support sectors. Over the past decade they have built a reputation on the delivery of exceptional recruitment service to leading businesses throughout Oxfordshire and across the UK.
Belinda Elliott, Business Manager at Bluestream confirmed the companies ongoing support for the award:
“The social responsibility award is an obvious and natural choice for us to support as it’s something we strive to achieve as a company through supporting our local community and businesses.
Having been in the recruitment industry for nearly a decade we understand the many pitfalls of job hunting and how hard it can be for someone to find work. Last year’s winner, Oxford Wood Recycling, stood out to us for being able to help individuals from many different walks of life.
By keeping their social responsibility at the core of their business they often made decisions that made a huge difference to an individual/ cause yet was not easy on the business itself. We could see that they are genuinely striving to make Oxfordshire a better area for those deemed as furthest from employment and have stuck it out despite the many challenges they’ve faced.”
Who won last year and why?
The company was recognised for its dual commitment to wood waste management and providing employment opportunities for people facing disadvantages.
The company’s CEO Richard Snow stated:
“Entering the V4B awards helped us to feel part of the business community in the Vale. The V4B team were very encouraging and we had many new opportunities to meet and chat to similar businesses , both in the lead up to, and at the awards.
The award has been really good for morale at OWR. That’s probably the biggest thing we’ve got from winning. We’re also proud to display the award at the Woodshop and the logo on our publicity materials such as the website. Interestingly it has inspired us to enter for other awards too. We have just won a ‘Clean and Green’ award at the Jack FM Brick Awards.”
