The Space Placements in INdustry scheme (SPIN) is a UK Space Agency project designed to provide an introductory link for those considering employment in the space sector. It also allows space sector organisations to find talented and enthusiastic people, which will ensure the future success of their businesses. The scheme is supported by the Satellite Applications Catapult in Harwell.
The SPIN scheme has been running since 2013 and continues to grow in popularity, due to the value of offering practical experience in the workplace and work environment – skills that are essential to a successful career.
The project team are always looking for potential host organisations who have a short-term project (typically of eight weeks duration), and who could offer individuals the opportunity to gain new skills and an insight into their business. They have produced a page to outline benefits to the sponsor or host organisation.
The Catapult website lists current placements available and how to apply. In the Harwell area there are oppportunities in radar profiling, Earth observation data analysis and data storage for satellites. The Catapult welcome applications from individuals of all disciplines, with enthusiasm to work in the space sector.
Opportunities can arrive at any time so keep an eye out on Twitter for the #SPIN18 tag.
