The small business community in Oxfordshire is being encouraged to collaborate, find partners as well as share their knowledge and experiences. The local Growth Hub, which is being run by OxLEP Business, is staging the first of what it hopes will be a series of Marketplace events on 8 June at the Egrove Park site of the Said Business School.
During the day exhibitors will be showcasing their enterprises and there will be technical seminars run by business support professionals on a range of topics valuable to SMEs including ‘Enterprises with a Purpose’ and a highly interactive session on building a business using a Business Model Canvas as a guide.
“SMEs are really important to Oxfordshire. They are creating jobs, innovating and generating prosperity. This is an opportunity for people who so often work in relative isolation to come together. We want to encourage entrepreneurs to share their knowledge and to showcase their services and products. There is so much happening in Oxfordshire and there are opportunities to exchange information with other businesses and connect to people who can help” said Helen Brind, Growth Hub Manager.
The county’s small businesses community is vibrant. Between 2010 and 2016, Oxfordshire businesses grew on average by 20.1%, with businesses boasting a five-year survival rate of 48.6% during the same period – some of the highest scores anywhere in England and Wales (ONS report – November 2017).
The Marketplace event on Friday 8 June (9.30am-2pm) is part of a programme encouraging small business growth. It includes 96 Workshops, grants and one-to-one support.
Helen Brind added: “One of our aims is to give Oxfordshire’s small businesses the best chance of succeeding. No one doubts that running a business can be tough. However, there is an untapped source of advice and help – from other people who have launched their own ventures. The SME community will only get stronger if it is pooling and sharing its knowledge.”
The event, OxLEP Business Marketplace is on Friday 8 June, 09.30am Egrove Park, Kennington Road, Kennington, Oxford, OX1 5NY. Places can be booked on Eventbrite: https://www.oxfordshirelep.com/events/event/elevate-marketplace-event
